Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters, one of rock music’s best drummers, died abruptly at the age of 50.
Late Friday night, Foo Fighters issued a brief social media statement announcing the awful news.
The singer and father-of-three was discovered unresponsive in a hotel room in Bogota, Colombia, where the band was scheduled to perform at a festival on Friday night, according to local media.
“The Foo Fighters family is crushed by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the band wrote on Twitter.
“His infectious humor and musical passion will live on in all of us forever.”
The cause of death was not immediately disclosed by Foo Fighters.
With the statement, the Picnic Stereo Fest Twitter account – a prominent music festival in Colombia where the band was scheduled to perform on Friday confirmed that Foo Fighters will not be performing.
The band is now on tour in South America, according to a representative for the band.
The band announced earlier this month that they would be returning to Australia for the first time since 2018, with stadium gigs in Perth on November 30, Melbourne on December 4, Brisbane on December 10, and Sydney on December 12.
