Warnock received his first promotion in 1990–1991 as he guided Notts County through the playoffs to the First Division (now the Championship). He later achieved promotion with six other teams: Queens Park Rangers (2010–11), Scarborough (1996–97), Bury (1997–98), Rotherham United (2000–01), Sheffield United (2005–06), and Cardiff City (2017–18).
