Van Conner was an American rock musician who was born on March 17, 1967 and died on January 18, 2023.

He was best known as the bassist for Screaming Trees.

Conner, his brother Gary Lee Conner, and Mark Pickerel started the band Explosive Generation when they were still in high school. With the addition of singer Mark Lanegan to the group in 1985, they eventually changed their name to Screaming Trees. The group relocated to Seattle in the late 1980s to become a part of that city’s developing alternative rock scene from their hometown of Ellensburg, Washington. Up until the band’s breakup in 2000, Conner performed on seven studio albums with Screaming Trees.

Conner formed the side project Solomon Grundy while still with Screaming Trees, where he performed lead vocals and guitar. That band released an album in 1990, and Conner was also a member of Dinosaur Jr.’s live lineup during that time. He later formed another side project called Gardener, which released an album in 1999. Following the dissolution of Screaming Trees, Conner worked as a session musician and formed several other alternative rock bands, including VALIS and Musk Ox.
