The daytime Emmy-nominated animated series Esme & Roy on HBO Max was among the children’s programs Todd Brian worked on. Todd Brian passed away on December 28 in Toronto “after a very brief but heroic fight with ALS,” according to his family. He was 59.

His family remembers the veteran of the Canadian entertainment business as “a highly charismatic man who would light up a room with his enthusiasm and humor.” He most recently held the position of Director of Development, Animation, at WildBrain.

Brian was born on December 3, 1963, and over the course of his career, he worked in both the animation and live-action spaces, holding positions before WildBrain as a production executive at Corus Kids and as a development executive at marblemedia.

Brian is a graduate of institutions like Ryerson University and the Canadian Film Centre. In addition, he worked as a story editor and writer for eOne TV, a senior writer for CBC Television, and a development coordinator for Barna-Alper Productions.

The live-action Nickelodeon programs Star Falls and Ride, as well as several TV movies based on L.M. Montgomery’s well-known book Anne of Green Gables for PBS, are just a few of Brian’s production executive credentials in addition to Esme & Roy.
