George Pell who lived from June 8, 1941, to January 10 2023 was an Australian Catholic cardinal.
He was ordained a priest in 1966 and a bishop in 1987 before being named a cardinal in 2003. Pell was the eighth Archbishop of Sydney and Melbourne’s seventh Archbishop.

Pell, who died aged 81 will be laid to rest at St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney, Australia. He served in that parish for over a decade before he was transferred to the Vatican.
He was a priest in rural Victoria and in Melbourne, and from 1988 to 1997, he chaired the humanitarian organization Caritas Australia.
Pell was appointed a delegate to the Australian Constitutional Convention in 1998, got the Australian government’s Centenary Medal in 2003, and was made a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2005.
He was Australia’s most senior Catholic Church figure, and he was credited with developing a process for dealing with reports of child sexual abuse in the Melbourne Catholic Church.
He himself had to endure allegations of child sex abuse while he was serving the church.
