The renowned independent producer of Wall Street, American Psycho, and The Crow, Edward R. Pressman, has passed away at the age of 79.
On January 17, the US producer passed away in Los Angeles. He “went away quietly surrounded by friends, family, and Pressman Film company members,” according to a statement.
Over the course of 50 years, Pressman produced more than 90 films and was renowned for supporting works by notable directors.
Oliver Stone’s Wall Street, Abel Ferrara’s Bad Lieutenant, Terrence Malick’s Badlands, John Milius’ Conan the Barbarian, and Mary Harron’s American Psycho are a few of his best-known productions.
The Crow revival, which will be helmed by Rupert Sanders and include Bill Skarsgaard and FKA Twigs, was his most recent project.
He was the son of Jack and Lynn Pressman, who established the games company Pressman Toy, which marked its 100th-anniversary last year, and was born in New York on April 11, 1943. Pressman used to work as a popcorn salesman at The Tribune, the movie theater owned by his uncle Moe Lane.
Prior to enrolling in graduate studies at the London School of Economics, where he met director Paul Williams, Pressman studied philosophy at Stanford University. The two worked together on the 1966 short film Girl, which was based on the same-named Beatles song.
Edward R. Pressman’s burial site is yet to be made public by the family. Our condolences go to the loved ones and sympathizers.
