Frederick Nathaniel Hibbert, better known as Toots Hibbert, was a Jamaican singer and songwriter who was the lead vocalist for the reggae and ska band Toots and the Maytals. Hibbert was born on December 8, 1942, in May Pen, Jamaica, as the youngest of six siblings. Hibbert grew up singing gospel music in a church choir because his parents were both strict Seventh-day Adventist preachers. Both parents died when Hibbert was 11, and he went to live with his brother John in Kingston’s Trenchtown neighborhood.

Hibbert appeared in Willie Nelson’s 2004 film Outlaws and Angels. Hibbert continued to tour the world, and in 2005, his band’s True Love won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Nelson released Countryman (2005), a reggae album that included the song “I’m a Worried Man” by Hibbert. Hibbert also appeared in the song’s music video, which was shot in Jamaica.
