Shocking details have emerged surrounding the disappearance and tragic death of Kelli Bordeaux at the hands of Nicholas Michael Holbert. Bordeaux, a young combat medic and soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, went missing after a night out with Holbert, a barback at Froggy Bottoms, a local dive bar in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Initially, Holbert claimed he had dropped Bordeaux off near her apartment after a night of drinking, but as the investigation unfolded, his web of lies began to unravel. It was revealed that Holbert, a convicted sex offender who had assaulted a child in his youth, had a dark past that Bordeaux was unaware of.

After a bartender at Froggy Bottoms informed Bordeaux about Holbert’s living situation and criminal history, she chose to walk home instead of accepting a ride from him. This decision led to a violent confrontation between the two, resulting in Bordeaux’s tragic death.

Holbert later confessed to police that he had assaulted and murdered Bordeaux, burying her body near his campsite. His horrific crime was finally brought to light in May 2014 when Bordeaux’s remains were discovered with Holbert’s help. He was subsequently arrested, charged with first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping, and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

As of May 2024, Nicholas Michael Holbert is serving his sentence at the Albemarle Correctional Institute in Albemarle, North Carolina. Bordeaux’s family and loved ones continue to grieve the loss of the vibrant young woman whose life was senselessly taken by the man she once considered a friend. The shocking true crime exposé played out in a classic episode of NBC’s Dateline sheds light on the devastating consequences of trust misplaced.
