On July 1, 1952, Canadian actor, comedian, producer, singer, and writer Daniel Edward Aykroyd CM OOnt was born.
His father, Peter Hugh Aykroyd, counseled Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau on strategy while his mother, Lorraine Hélène Marie, worked as a secretary. His mother was French Canadian, and his father was of English, Scottish, Irish, French, and Dutch descent. His brother Peter was also a performer.

After completing his secondary education at St. Pius X and St. Patrick’s, he enrolled at Carleton University to pursue a degree in sociology and criminology but departed before completing it.
He was a humorist who appeared in a number of nightclubs around Canada and, for a spell, was the manager of Toronto’s Club 505. As a cast member of the short-lived Canadian sketch comedy program The Hart, which also included Lorne Michaels and the Lorne Terrific Hour, Aykroyd launched his career at the age of 17.
In 1973, he was a member of the Second City comedy troupe in Chicago and Toronto.
