Her father, Robert Lee Parton was born in 1921 into a family of farmers. He was also a peasant farmer.
He grew tobacco and raised livestock to take care of his wife and children while her mother Avie, stayed home and took care of their 12 children.
Her father died on November 12, 2000, at the age of 79 at the Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee in Knoxville of stroke complications.
Her mother died three years later on December 5, 2003, at the age of 80 after battling a long illness.
Her parents are buried next to each other at Angel Hill Cemetery in Sevierville, Sevier County Tennessee.
