Timothy Burchett was born on August 25, 1964, in Knoxville, Tennessee, and has been a United States Representative in Tennessee’s 2nd congressional district since 2019.
After being elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1994, Burchett made his first run for public office. He served two two-year terms in the House from 1995 to 1998. In 1998, he was elected to the Tennessee State Senate to represent Tennessee’s 7th legislative district. He succeeded Clyde Coulter “Bud” Gilbert. He was re-elected twice and served three four-year terms from 1999 to 2010.

Burchett grew up in East Tennessee after being born in Knoxville. His wife, Kelly, and their daughter, Isabel, live in the Gibbs Community of Knox County.
Rep. Burchett was elected in January 2019 after serving as mayor of Knox County for eight years.
He established a successful small business before serving in the state government for 16 years, first in the State House and then in the State Senate, before becoming Mayor of Knox County.
Rep. Burchett sponsored 23 bills and cosponsored 201 pieces of legislation in the House of Representatives during the 117th Congress, three of which were signed into law by President Biden.
