Hernandez was selected to the PFWA All-Rookie Team after being named the Giants’ starting left guard to begin 2018. He started all 16 games. Hernandez tested positive for COVID-19 on October 29, 2020, and the Giants put him on the reserve/COVID-19 list. He was added back to the active roster on November 10. He did not start at left guard for the remainder of the season, losing the job to rookie Shane Lemieux, despite being fully recovered.
