Sermon studied at Sprayberry High School in the city of Marietta, Georgia. He was part of the football team during his time in high school and was vital to several of the team’s victories.
His impressive performances caught the attention of many college scouts and recruiting agencies who offered him admission and scholarships. He announced his intention to play collegiate football at Oklahoma University.
During his freshman year with the Sooners, he started all 14 games and finished the campaign with five touchdowns. He transferred to Ohio State after his graduation in 2020 and set the record for the most rushing yards in a single game by an Ohio State player and the most from a single player in the history of the Football Bowl Subdivision championship.
