On August 6, 1976, Michael Stanley Regan, an American environmental regulator, was born. Zeb Stuart Regan Jr., a Vietnam War veteran, a former agricultural extension agent, and a retired colonel in the North Carolina Army National Guard, is the father of Regan, a native of Goldsboro, North Carolina. Since March 11, 2021, Michael Stanley Regan has served as the 16th administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. He is the first African American to occupy the role. Regan worked for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as the division’s secretary and a specialist in air quality before relocating to North Carolina.
His appointment to that position was eagerly welcomed by environmental groups due to his track record for opposing environmental racism and backing legislation to address climate change.
