On December 17, 1999, Joshua Paschal—a defensive end for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League—was born. In the 2022 NFL Draft, the Lions selected him in the second round after he played college football for Kentucky.
Paschal played in all 13 of Kentucky’s games as a freshman, compiling 17 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. Before preseason training camp started, it was found that he had malignant melanoma on his left foot.
Paschal used a medical redshirt while undergoing treatment, but he was still able to participate in Kentucky’s final three games. He recorded 34 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in his redshirt sophomore season.

Paschal was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland. At Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, he participated in both football and basketball. As a senior, Paschal recorded 64 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, and 5.5 sacks.
Paschal elected to play college football with the Kentucky Wildcats and was rated as a four-star prospect despite receiving offers from Maryland, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State, and USC.
