John Amos is an award-winning actor who has been inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. He is best known for his role as James Evans, Sr., on the CBS television series Good Times.

He also received many accolades for his performance in the miniseries Roots, where he played the character Junta Kinte.

Where did John Amos go to college and high school?

The veteran actor attended the East Orange High School in East Orange, New Jersey, where he grew up. He graduated with his high school diploma in 1958.

He got admission to study at Long Beach City College but later moved to  Colorado State University. During his time at Colorado, he played on the school’s football team. He graduated with a degree in sociology and a qualification to have a career in social work.

Did John Amos go to film school?

Amos had not received any formal acting training and launched his acting career after a number of unsuccessful stints at several football teams.
