Moore was born on September 25, 1977, in Portland, Oregon, to Missy (née Irvine) and John Moore. In the Mount Tabor neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, Moore was raised. He graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School in 1995.
After graduating from high school, Moore studied for two years at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.
He transferred schools in 1998 and enrolled at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon, where he spent two summers performing at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2001.
