Gustafson opens up his own factory while Jangles and Things struggle financially because the police have no evidence of Gustafson’s behavior. After his daughter Jessica moves out of the house following the death of his wife Joanne, Jeronicus sets some distance between them.
After 30 years, Jeronicus lacks any sense of inspiration, and Jangles and Things is a failing pawn shop. He receives a visit from Ms. Johnston, a postwoman who cares about him and falls in love with him while trying to make him feel better.
A banker named Mr. Delacroix visits Jeronicus and orders him to pay off his debts or develop a brand-new invention to deliver to the bank by Christmas or risk losing his business.
