DeVonta Smith (born November 14, 1998) is an American football wide receiver for the National Football League’s Philadelphia Eagles (NFL). He played college football at Alabama, where he finished his senior year with over 1,800 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Where did DeVonta Smith go to high school?
Smith went to Amite High Magnet School in Amite City, Louisiana, where he grew up. He was a basketball and football player. He committed to playing college football at the University of Alabama.
Smith received the Heisman Trophy as well as several other awards and honors for his achievements. He was the first wide receiver to win the Heisman Trophy since Desmond Howard in 1991 and only the fourth overall. He also won two national championships at Alabama before being selected tenth overall by the Eagles in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Smith had eight receptions for 160 yards and three touchdowns as a true freshman at Alabama in 2017. Smith’s only catch of the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship against Georgia was the game-winning touchdown reception in an overtime 26-23 victory. He had 42 receptions for 693 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore in 2018.
Smith led the Crimson Tide in receiving yards and touchdowns with 1,256 yards and 14 touchdowns on 68 receptions. Smith set career highs with 274 yards and 5 touchdowns against Ole Miss on September 28.
After the season, his teammates Henry Ruggs and Jerry Jeudy forewent their remaining NCAA eligibility to enter the 2020 NFL Draft, where they were selected in the first round, but Smith chose to return to Alabama for his senior year.
