Darius Demetrius Slay Jr. (born January 1, 1991) is an American football cornerback for the National Football League’s Philadelphia Eagles (NFL). He attended Mississippi State and was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.
Where did Darius Slay go to high school?
Slay, a native of Brunswick, Georgia, attended Brunswick High School, where he was a running back and defensive back. Following his senior season, he was named All-State at the defensive back by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and he was also selected for the Georgia North-South All-Star Game. In the 2008 season, he rushed for over 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns while intercepting six passes and returning two for touchdowns.
A torn medial collateral ligament cut short his junior season after he had run for 336 yards and six touchdowns in five games. He rushed for 1,127 yards on 142 attempts and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore. Slay was a standout track and field athlete and earned letters in basketball as well. In the 100 and 200 meters, he ran in 10.9 and 22 seconds, respectively.
The majority of NFL draft experts and scouts projected Slay to be a second or third-round pick out of Mississippi State. He was invited to the NFL combine and went through all of the required combine and positional drills. Slay attended Mississippi State’s pro day on March 6, 2013, in front of team representatives and scouts from 30 NFL teams.
