Reece attended Banning High School in Wilmington, California, before attending USC.
Family His son, Daniel Reece Jr., was a former professional boxer. Daniel began fighting professionally after beginning his career with the boxing team at The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he was the 2006 National Welterweight Champion and a two-time Western Regional Champion. Prior to being forced into early retirement in 2010 by an eye injury, he was unbeaten in seven professional matches. In 2012, he made a comeback to fighting, this time as a mixed martial artist. His MMA career was likewise brief since the same eye injury that had forced his boxing retirement also caused him to lose vision in one eye, forcing him to retire again.
Danny grew up with eight siblings: five brothers and three sisters, most of whom were younger. His brothers also played collegiate football, but Danny was the only one who played professionally. Lloyd Reece was on the USS Arizona during the Pearl Harbor attack and played professional baseball for the Kansas City Monarchs. Lloyd Reece died in October 2004.
