David Vernon “D. J.” Reader Jr. born July 1, 1994, is an American football defensive tackle for the National Football League’s Cincinnati Bengals (NFL).

He attended Clemson University and was taken in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Where did D.J. Reader go to high school?

He attended and graduated from Grimsley High School where he played football for the school’s team. The Houston Texans selected Reader in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

In 2017, he took over as the starting nose tackle for the Texans when Vince Wilfork retired. He appeared in 14 games before being placed on injured reserve on December 19, 2017.

Reader recorded the first multi-sack game of his career on September 9, 2018, against the New England Patriots in the 2018 season opener.

He had 1.5 sacks on Philip Rivers in a 27-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3 of the 2019 season. Reader signed a four-year, $53 million contract with the Cincinnati Bengals on April 2, 2020.

On October 12, 2020, he was placed on injured reserve with a quad injury, then in Week 3 of the 2022 season, he suffered a knee injury. He was placed on injured reserve for the rest of the season on September 29, 2022.
