Cori Anika Bush is a politician from the United States. She also works as a pastor, and a certified nurse. She was born on July 21, 1976. She now represents Missouri’s first congressional district.

Bush advanced to the November general election in a firmly Democratic congressional district by defeating ten-term incumbent Lacy Clay on August 4, 2020, in what was widely seen as a historic upset.

Bush spent a year attending Harris-Stowe State University and until 2001 was employed as a preschool teacher. She graduated with a nursing diploma from the Lutheran School of Nursing in 2008.

Bush is the first woman of African descent from Missouri to hold a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. She previously sought the district’s Democratic nomination in 2018 as well as the Missouri U.S. Senate seat in 2016.

In addition, the St. Loius native is also a pastor.
