Clifford Vivian Devon Curtis is a New Zealand actor, who is the co-owner of the independent New Zealand production company Whenua Films.

Cliff Curtis was born on July 27, 1968, in Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. He is of Māori descent with his tribal affiliations being Te Arawa and Ngāti Hauiti.
He was one of eight children of an amateur dancer. During his childhood, he studied mau rākau, a traditional Māori form of taiaha fighting, with Māori elder Mita Mohi on Mokoia Island. All these nurtured his abilities as a performer in kapa haka.
Later, he performed as a breakdancer and competitively in rock ‘n’ roll dance competitions. For his secondary education, he enrolled at Edmund Rice College, Rotorua. After his graduation, he enrolled at Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School. There, he graduated with Diploma in Acting in 1989.
