Christopher James Christie, an American politician, attorney, political pundit, lobbyist, and former federal prosecutor, was the 55th governor of New Jersey from 2010 to 2018. He was born on September 6, 1962.

Christie was raised in Livingston, New Jersey while being a Newark, New Jersey native. He received a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law after graduating from the University of Delaware in 1984.

Christie, a Republican, was chosen to serve as Morris County’s county freeholder (legislator) from 1995 to 1998.

He had supported George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush on the campaign trail by 2002. The latter president then named him U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, a position he served from 2002 until 2008.

In the general election, Christie beat Democratic incumbent Jon Corzine after winning the 2009 Republican primary for governor of New Jersey. He was praised for spending less during his first term, limiting the expansion of property taxes, and being involved in Hurricane Sandy relief activities. In 2013, he easily defeated Barbara Buono, the majority leader of the state senate.
