Charles Allan Rich was an American country music singer, composer, and musician who lived from December 14, 1932, until July 25, 1995.

Rich was given a stack of Jerry Lee Lewis records and instructed to return when things were that bad after recording three demo tracks for Sam Phillips at Sun Records that Phillips deemed “too jazzy” and “not commercial enough.”

Rich recounted Bill Justis telling Rich’s wife similar comments in a 1992 interview with Fresh Air presenter Terry Gross.

Rich began working as a session musician for Sun Songs on a regular basis in 1958. He contributed to numerous records by Lewis, Johnny Cash, Bill Justis, Warren Smith, Billy Lee Riley, Carl Mann, and Ray Smith. He has produced music for artists like Cash, Lewis, and others.
