Otton attended Tumwater High School in Tumwater, Washington. He was named The Olympian’s All-Area Football Player of the Year as a senior after compiling 39 receptions for 733 yards and 13 offensive touchdowns in addition to 107 tackles and three sacks on defence.

Cade Otton attended the University of Washington and played collegiate football there. Otton received a red shirt in 2017. He took part in all 14 games in 2018. He received the start in 10 of the contests. By the end of the season, he had 13 receptions for 174 yards and three touchdowns.

In 2019, he started each of the 13 games as a sophomore. He hauled in 32 passes for 344 yards and two scores. He started all four games as a junior in 2020 and finished with 18 receptions for 258 yards and three touchdowns. Otton made the decision not to declare for the 2021 National Football League Draft and to play his senior season at Washington. His senior year saw him set all-time lows in terms of his performance. Still, he was considered a Top 10 Tight-End. Cade Otton was chosen by Tampa Bay in the fourth round of the 2022 National Football League Draft. Otton caught 113 passes during his time at Washington, accounting for 76% of them. He had nine touchdowns and an average receiving yardage of 11.5 yards.
