In 2022, the Eagles signed him as an undrafted free agent after he played collegiate football for Utah. Despite only participating for two years as a starter, he ended his high school career fourth all-time in Utah in terms of touchdowns (with 111). He twice won the Utah Valley Football Player of the Year award and helped Timpview win consecutive state championships. Covey’s total offense at the school was close to 7,400 yards.
As he served an LDS mission in Chile in 2016, and 2017, Covey was unable to s the games. In 2018, he went back to Utah. He played in thirteen games that year, starting four of them.
