Before suffering a thumb injury against Stephen F. Austin and sitting out the rest of the season, Jones participated in two games as a true freshman. Jones was chosen to the Big Sky Conference third team and started as a redshirt sophomore.
His redshirt junior season, which was cut short and played in the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 epidemic in the United States, saw him start four games at left tackle and earn first-team all-conference honors. Jones was once again chosen for the first team All-Big Sky in 2021. Jones was given a Senior Bowl invitation during the course of the season.
