At the Canadian Open in Toronto on Monday, Serena Williams defeated Spain’s Nuria Párrizas Dáz ( 6-4 6-3) to win her first singles match in 430 days.
Despite what the straight-set result might indicate, Williams, whose last singles victory came at the 2021 French Open, had to work hard to defeat Párrizas Dáz in close to two hours.
The No. 57-ranked Párrizas Dáz was only beaten by the 23-time grand slam champion after she saved seven break points, including four when the score was 3-4 in the second set.
