Miha Baloh, an actor, passed away today at the age of 95, according to the family.

Botjan Hladnik and Draga moja Iza, both directed by Vojko Duleti, and other cult classics like Dancing in the Rain and The Director’s Masquerade starring Baloh, who belonged to the generation of artists who brought about an intellectual resurgence in Slovenian institutional culture in the 1950s.

Saa Pavek, the president of the Association of Dramatic Artists of Slovenia, noted that everyone admires Baloch’s acting career, which is “redolent with a single freedom and eternal youthful audacity,” on the occasion of his 90th birthday in 2018.

“You’ve always been a tireless seeker of freedom, for someone, maybe a boy who never quite grew up, who likes to veer off the beaten path to enjoy something new. Only freedom seekers like you can push the boundaries. As a drama actor, you and your like-minded people revived the Slovenian theater.

He found new expressive forms of play and theater in the Experimental Theater/Theatre Studio in the years 1955-67, then at Oder 57 from 1957-64, and in the Experimental Groups in Ljubljana and SLG Celje. So, if I count correctly, you were a freelance artist for six years, mainly a film actor, and then from 1977 a member of the SNG Drama Ljubljana, where (fortunately!) you continued to act even after 1978 when you retired,” he stated.
