Shane Olivea, a former Ohio State football player, has reportedly died at the age of 40.
On Thursday, ex-NFL linebacker Bobby Carpenter revealed the death of the former Buckeye standout.
Olivea was a three-year starter for the Ohio State Buckeyes between 2001 and 2003, receiving All-Big Ten honors during his junior and senior seasons.
With a win over Miami in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, he helped the university earn the national championship.
In his four years with the Chargers, he was picked in the seventh round of the NFL Draft and started 57 games for the team.
Olivea is the second starting offensive lineman from the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes to pass away in the last six months.
He came off the bench late in the 2007 game, and his weight had increased to around 390 pounds.
His relationship with his trainers and leadership deteriorated as a result of his retreat from his coworkers.
