American Guitarist and founder of The Ventures, Don Wilson died on January 22 of natural causes at his home in Tacoma. Wilson’s son Tim verified his father’s death to media houses and added this statement;
“Our father was an incredible rhythm guitarist who affected people all around the world with his band, the Ventures.” He will be remembered for the rest of the time, and he was immensely liked and valued. He will be dearly missed.”
The Ventures were a prolific band that released dozens of albums and sold an estimated 100 million records.
Many of their songs were covers, although Wilson and Bogle did write originals such as “No Trespassing,” “The McCoy,” “Love Goddess of Venus,” “Stop Action,” and many more.
Their music impacted innumerable musicians, notable guitarists such as George Harrison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Carl Wilson (no related to Don) of the Beach Boys, and others.
Wilson was the last surviving member of the core Ventures lineup. He was 88 years old.
