“When did you turn 60?” – Confusion caused at GRA boss’s appearance before PAC

Monday’s public account committee sitting was thrown into dismay when what signaled like a straightforward interrogation became a cause of disagreement.

Throughout the turn of the Ghana Revenue Authority at the meeting, Ningo-Prampram legislator Sam George demanded to recognize the year in which the Authority’s Commissioner-General, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, attained the age of 60.

“Is this not really personal? I think it is,” retorted sternly another committee member.

However, the commissioner never took this easily at all; he started sounding nervous and asking lots of given-back questions as to why he should ask him such a question. This has also turned into a heavy argument, leading to disagreement over vital issues that were supposed to be discussed.

This is an unexpected 10 minutes of confusion over a birth year. Surprisingly, the sitting was delayed just because of the aforementioned question. The commissioner disagreed later and considered the question asked irrelevant and not vital to the sitting.

The deputy finance minister, Abena Osei-Asare, stated that the matter of age was a personal question.
