Ice, who was born in South Dallas on October 31, 1967, was reared in South Florida and Texas. Ichiban Records released his self-titled debut album in 1989.

When did Vanilla Ice come out?
In 1989 Vanilla became a successful rapper with the song “Hooked”. Van Winkle began practicing breakdancing between the ages of 13 and 14, and since he was the only member of the group who wasn’t black, his pals began calling him “Vanilla” because of this.
He didn’t like the moniker, but it stayed. Soon after, Van Winkle began combat rapping at gatherings, and his friends soon began referring to him as “MC Vanilla” because of his rhymes.
Van Winkle’s stage name, which he adopted when he joined a breakdance group, was “Vanilla Ice,” a combination of his nickname “Vanilla” and one of his breakdance routines, “The Ice.”
