According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is worth an estimated $7.3 billion, but the microblogging site accounts for only a small portion of his personal fortune.
When did Jack Dorsey become a millionaire?
Dorsey cofounded Square, a mobile-payments company that provides devices and software to allow credit card transactions, and became its CEO in 2009.
It was launched in 2010 and had over two million users by 2012.
Square was initially exclusively available in North America, but in 2013, when its services were made available in Japan, it spread to other areas.
Dorsey also joined the Disney Company’s board of directors that year. He returned to Twitter as CEO in October 2015, while simultaneously remaining the CEO of Square.
During his second time at Twitter, the firm came under increasing fire for its efforts to restrict access to offensive content.
Conservatives were particularly outraged, especially after Twitter permanently banned US President Donald Trump in 2020.
