Blondie is an American rock band that was created by guitarist Chris Stein and Debbie Harry. In the middle of the 1970s, the ensemble was a pioneer in the American new wave scene in New York.
Although Blondie’s first two albums largely featured elements of punk and new wave, they weren’t generally known in the US until the 1978 release of Parallel Lines, despite being quite famous in the UK and Australia.
Over the next four years, the band released a number of successful songs, including “Heart of Glass,” “Call Me,” “Atomic,” “The Tide Is High,” and “Rapture.” The ensemble became well-known for combining a variety of musical genres, such as early rap, disco, pop, and reggae.
When did Blondie disband?
Blondie disbanded following the 1982 release of The Hunter, their sixth studio album. Debbie Harry returned to her solo career with different degrees of success after taking a few years off to care for her partner Chris Stein, who had been diagnosed with pemphigus, a rare inflammatory skin disease.
The band, which had previously disbanded in 1986, achieved renewed success in 1999 with “Maria,” their sixth UK No. 1 single, exactly 20 years after their first UK No. 1 hit (“Heart of Glass”).
