Frogmore Cottage, nestled in the beautiful Frogmore Estate with 33 acres of private gardens near Windsor Castle, has been a royal residence for many years.
Formerly the home of Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, the couple moved into the property in April 2019 after it underwent extensive renovations as a wedding gift from the late Queen Elizabeth.
The refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage cost the taxpayer a hefty £2.4 million and was completed in April 2019, with new heating, wiring, and utilities making it fit for a royal couple.
Harry and Meghan agreed to pay back the money for the refurbishment when they moved to the United States and stepped back from their royal titles, which they did after securing a lucrative Netflix series deal.
Though the main renovation took around six months, some work is still outstanding, such as repainting the exterior and landscaping the grounds.
The couple reportedly left the property in the middle of the night after handing the keys to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank in November 2020. However, the new tenants didn’t stay long and moved out six months later following an alleged drama with the Cambridges.
On February 28, 2023, it was revealed that Harry and Meghan were evicted from Frogmore Cottage by King Charles following the release of Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare.
The book promises to offer a raw, unflinching honesty about the prince’s life, including insights, revelations, self-examinations, and wisdom gained from love over grief. The couple officially handed back the keys to the property on June 28, 2023.
The historic estate continues to attract attention, with plans to rent out Frogmore Cottage for a new chapter in its storied history. With its designer kitchen, refitted bathrooms, and beautiful surroundings, Frogmore Cottage remains a symbol of royal elegance and charm.
