American country singer Wanda Jackson, born Wanda Lavonne Jackson on October 20, 1937, in Maud, Oklahoma, gained the title “Queen of Rockabilly” in addition to her success in rock & roll.

In 1952, Jackson, who was still in high school, started singing on a regular radio program in Oklahoma City. The 1954 country song “You Can’t Have My Love” was created as a result of Hank Thompson, a country artist, encouraging her to record with his band, the Brazos Valley Boys.

Jackson joined an Elvis Presley concert tour after finishing high school, and Presley encouraged her to try her hand at the quickly expanding rockabilly genre.

She joined Capitol Records in 1956, and soon after, she recorded a number of songs featuring a rockabilly track on one side and a country tune on the other, showcasing her musical versatility. Even on her debut 45, “I Gotta Know,” she blended the two genres (1956).
