According to Bluefield State College officials, Terry Brown, a former athlete, coach, and athletic director, passed away on Friday.
Brown, a former member of the Millionaire’s team that won the state championship at Bramwell High School, began playing basketball for Bluefield State under the direction of Tony Mandeville in 1971.
During the 1996 WVIAC basketball tournament, Brown led the Big Blue.
The achievement allowed Bluefield State to participate in the NAIA Division II national basketball tournament as the first college from West Virginia.
Due to health issues, Brown stopped coaching in the late 1990s, although he stayed on at the college as athletic director until his retirement in 2006.
