What was Nicki Minaj’s brother convicted of?

After being found guilty of molesting an 11-year-old girl at his Long Island home, the musician Nicki Minaj’s brother was given a sentence that could have ranged from 25 years to life in prison.

Jelani Maraj was convicted guilty of child endangerment and predatory sexual assault in November 2017. The youngster testified throughout the trial that Maraj repeatedly abused her while her mother was at work in 2015.

The prosecution claims that DNA evidence found in the girl’s pyjamas linked Maraj to the crime. The girl’s younger brother testified in court as well, stating he witnessed one incident.

Maraj’s conviction was appealed in 2018 due to unlawful jury conduct. The court determined in October that the defence had not met its burden of proof.

In court, Maraj acknowledged having a drinking issue and begged for a “second chance.” One of his attorneys asked for a minimum sentence of 10 years to life, citing the man’s anaemia, gout, and hypertension as medical issues. Maraj’s appellate attorney, Stephen Scaring, stated he will contest the judge’s decision.
