Nelson was a native of Abbott, Texas, and the son of Ira Doyle Nelson and Myrle Marie. His birthday is April 29, 1933. Dr. F. D. Sims incorrectly gave April 30 as his birthdate.

In honor of her younger brother, who had recently passed away, his cousin Mildred gave him the name Willie and also decided to give him the middle name Hugh.

Nelson might be descended from Major John Nelson, a soldier in the American Revolutionary War. His parents moved from Arkansas to Texas in 1929 in search of work.

What was Nelson’s biggest hit?

On September 29, 1990, Nelson’s debut single, “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection,” dethroned Wilson Phillips’ “Release Me” as the number one song on the Hot 100. The video was heavily viewed on MTV.

The brothers are seen lounging in a dingy basement. While Matthew practices a new guitar riff, Gunnar covets a model who is featured on the cover of Vogue. He persuades his brother to put down the magazine and sing along with him on a fun new song.

It instantly transports them to a fantastical world with white pianos, bikini-clad ladies dancing, and a sky made of colorful sheets. By the time the picture fades back to the basement, snow is falling upward. Gunnar returns to get the magazine as they leave.

Due to the song’s tremendous success and the follow-up single “After the Rain,” Nelson briefly gained notoriety. Matthew even had the most quintessentially ’90s romance possible with Bobbie Brown, the blonde beauty from the “Cherry Pie” video.

However, as the year came to a conclusion, a brand-new band by the name of Mookie Blaylock started playing at small Seattle venues. They made the decision to change their name to Pearl Jam about the time that Nirvana, another Seattle band, began recording Nevermind.
