He was judged responsible for 15 of the 17 murders he admitted to perpetrating before the verdict was rendered. The situation changed on November 28, 1994, when Dahmer was the victim of a vicious assault by another prisoner.
The Milwaukee Cannibal and a second prisoner were attacked that morning when the three were assigned to perform janitorial duties in the Columbia Correctional Institution gym area.
The murderer was taken to the hospital right away after the attack but was declared dead an hour later.
According to Dahmer’s postmortem report, homicide by bludgeoning and severe head and brain damage were the causes of death.
