Her breakout role came from starring as Jessica Huang in the ABC television comedy Fresh Off the Boat. It was this same role that later forced her to take a break from acting.

In 2019, Fresh Off the Boat was renewed for another season. Though fans of the show were happy about this news, Wu was not.
Immediately after the announcement, she took to Twitter to vent her frustrations saying,
“So upset right now that I’m literally crying. Ugh. F—-.”
Her displeasure was not conveyed enough on Twitter, so she took to Instagram. Under the show’s post on Instagram, she commented “Dislike”
Why did Constance Wu leave Twitter?
It was quite clear that many were not happy about Wu’s unhappiness. She later clarified that. According to her, the show’s renewal meant she had to give up a passion project.
However, the damage had already been done and backlash ensued. Due to this, she almost committed suicide and had to take a break from her career.
