Since 2022, Chloe Rebecca Smith has served as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. From 2021 to 2022, she was Minister of State for Disabled People, Work, and Health. She has served as the Conservative Party’s Member of Parliament for Norwich North since 2009.

Smith worked as a junior minister under both David Cameron and Theresa May, including two periods as Parliamentary Secretary for the Constitution. She retained the latter position following Boris Johnson’s victory in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election. During the second Johnson administration, she was elevated to Minister of State in February 2020.

What religion is politician Chloe Smith? Is she an atheist?

She is a Christian.

She studied English Literature at the University of York after taking a gap year working for former Conservative Education Secretary Gillian Shephard. She worked with Bernard Jenkin throughout the summer.

She began her career as a management consultant with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu after graduating from York University. She provided advice to commercial companies, government ministries, and public entities.

Smith was chosen as the Conservative Party’s candidate for the Norwich North constituency in the 2007 general election.

She then took time off from her job, working on secondment for Conservative Central Office, to “write out comprehensive plans to put our policies into action.”

Smith was named Parliamentary Secretary for the Constitution in January 2018, as part of Theresa May’s 2018 cabinet reshuffle, a position she previously held under David Cameron. Boris Johnson elevated Smith to Minister of State in February 2020.

Smith was the victim of an anthrax scare in August 2019, when a 40-year-old guy from Barnstaple mailed her a parcel of mysterious white powder.

Smith was appointed Minister of State for Disabled People, Work, and Health in the Department for Work and Pensions in September 2021, following a cabinet reshuffle.
