Edward John Argar, Comport is a British politician who has been Paymaster General and Cabinet Office Minister since 2022.

He formerly served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice from 2018 to 2019 and as Minister of State for Health from 2019 to 2022 as a Conservative Party member. Since the 2015 general election, Argar has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Charnwood.

After graduating from university, he worked as the Press Secretary for Shadow Foreign Secretary Lord Ancram, who shared an office with then-Shadow Cabinet Minister Sir Alan Duncan at the time.

After working for Lord Ancram, he moved on to Hedra, a management consulting firm acquired by Mouchel. He was elected to the CBI’s South East Regional Council in February 2013, presenting himself as “Head of Public Affairs, Serco UK & Europe.”

In 2006, he was elected to Westminster City Council as a Conservative, and in 2008, he was appointed to the cabinet. In 2012, he ran for council leadership but was defeated by Philippa Roe.

Argar resigned from the cabinet on July 6, 2022, following a significant number of other ministerial resignations in the aftermath of public criticism of Boris Johnson’s handling of the Chris Pincher incident.

He was named Paymaster General on September 7, 2022.
