Senator representing South Australia since 2002, Penelope Ying-Yen Wong is an Australian politician.

She was named Minister for Climate Change and Water after the Rudd Government was elected in 2007.

She greatly enlarged the Renewable Energy Target while in this role, resulting in a major investment in wind and solar power. She also represented Australia in international climate change discussions and helped to design the Rudd government’s emissions trading program, a market-based mechanism for reducing Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions in the most cost-effective manner.
