What nationality is Nia Long?

Nia Long, an American actress and sporadic music video director, was born on October 30, 1970. She is most known for her appearances in the movies Soul Food, Love Jones, The Best Man, Big Momma’s House, and Are We There Yet? as well as the television shows The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Third Watch.

She joined the cast of the drama Third Watch in 2003, playing NYPD Officer Sasha Monroe, and stayed there until the show’s 2005 conclusion. Long was on Everwood in 2005 and 2006 and on Boston Legal in the 2006–2007 season. Long co-starred with Michael Vartan and Dylan McDermott in the 2007–2008 television series Big Shots. During the first season of the popular sitcom Living Single, she also made a cameo appearance.

The United States’ Brooklyn is where Long was born. She is from an Afro-Trinidadian family. One of the seven Kwanzaa days is Nia, which in Swahili means “purpose.”

She studied ballet, tap, jazz, gymnastics, guitar, acting, and other performing arts at the Roman Catholic institution St. Mary’s Academy. 1989 saw her graduate from Westchester High School. Betty Bridges, well known as the mother of Diff’rent Strokes actor Todd Bridges, served as Long’s acting instructor.
