Darlene Wright, better known by her stage name Darlene Love, was born on July 26, 1941. She sang lead for the female group the Blossoms as well as making solo recordings.

She joined the choir at her local church when she was a little child. With producer Phil Spector, she began recording in 1962, and he gave her the new stage name Darlene Love.

She sang the lead vocals for “He’s a Rebel” and “He’s Sure the Boy I Love,” two songs by the Crystals.

She worked with many of the 1960s’ greatest rock and soul performers, such as Sam Cooke, Dionne Warwick, Bill Medley, the Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, and Sonny and Cher.

Love appeared in several Broadway shows as an actress. In the Lethal Weapon movie series, she played Roger Murtaugh’s wife on a regular basis.

Every year for the Christmas season, David Letterman invited Love to perform the song “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on the Late Show with David Letterman. Love was dubbed the “Christmas Queen” by Letterman.
