James Newell Osterberg Jr., an American singer, musician, radio host, songwriter, and actor born on April 21, 1947, is better known by his stage name Iggy Pop.

He has Danish and Norwegian ancestry on his mother’s side and English, German, and Irish ancestry on his father’s. A Swedish-American nurse with the last of Osterberg was his adopted mother.

The family resided in a trailer park in Ypsilanti, Michigan. According to Ron Asheton’s subsequent account, he was a typical adolescent who “hang around with the popular kids who wore chinos, cashmere sweaters, and penny loafers.

Before his parents gave him a drum set, Osterberg began playing in the fifth grade using rubber pads that were attached to the plywood. The curvature in Pop’s spine was discovered, and one of his legs was 1.5 inches shorter than the other.

In the 1990s, Pop became friends with Jonathan Shaw, Jim Jarmusch, and Johnny Depp. Shaw stated that all four, with the exception of Pop, wore matching rings with skull patterns and had identical tattoos of a skull and crossbones on their bodies.
